“You’ve seemed tense lately. Everything okay?”

Bethany stood slowly. “I didn’t know Purnell was involved in court proceedings.” She watched his face closely. “Did you ask him to be a witness?”

For a fraction of a second, Greg’s calm cracked.

Then he laughed. “Why would I involve Purnell? That’s ridiculous.”

Bethany’s eyes hardened. “Don’t lie to me. I saw the paperwork. You asked him—didn’t you?”

The smile vanished.

Bethany clutched the papers tighter. “Not this one. I’m going to find out everything—and when I do, there will be consequences.”

For a long moment, neither of them moved.
