      Destiny’s Escape Read More

When Silence Starts to Scream

The living room felt heavier than usual, as if the walls themselves were holding their breath.

Destiny sat on the edge of the couch, hands tightly clasped in her lap. The steady hum of the ceiling fan was too loud, too constant—mirroring the storm churning inside her. She had rehearsed this moment for days, but now that it was here, her stomach twisted with nerves.

A Question That Opened the Door

Larry walked in, dropping his keys on the side table.

Larry: “Destiny? You’ve been quiet all evening. What’s going on?”

Destiny inhaled deeply.

Destiny: “Larry… I need to tell you something.”

He frowned slightly.
Larry: “Okay… what is it?”

She swallowed hard.

Destiny: “I can’t stay here anymore. I’m going back to Chicago.”

Larry froze.

Larry: “What? Why?”

The Truth She Couldn’t Carry Anymore

Destiny looked down, her voice shaking.

Destiny: “The fights. You and Bethany. The tension—it’s everywhere. I feel trapped. I can’t breathe, I can’t focus… I can’t even think straight anymore.”

Larry ran a hand over his face.

Larry: “Destiny, you can’t just leave because of our arguments.”

She looked up, eyes shining with frustration.

Destiny: “I’m not just leaving because of that. I’m leaving because it’s breaking me. Every argument chips away at me. I don’t even want to go to school anymore. I feel so heavy all the time.”

Larry sat down slowly.

Larry: “I thought you were handling it.”

Her laugh was hollow.

Destiny: “I was surviving. Barely.”

Choosing Peace Over Staying Silent

Larry leaned forward.

Larry: “Running away won’t fix this.”

Destiny stood, hands trembling.

Destiny: “This isn’t running away. This is survival. I’ve waited—hoping things would change, hoping you’d see how much this hurts me. Nothing changed.”

His voice tightened.

Larry: “You’re letting the tension control you.”

Tears finally spilled down her cheeks.

Destiny: “No. I’m choosing peace. For the first time, I’m choosing myself.”

Larry exhaled sharply.

Larry: “I never meant for it to get this bad.”

Destiny: “I know. But knowing doesn’t undo the damage.”

The Goodbye That Changed Everything ⚠️

Destiny picked up her bag and walked toward the door.

Destiny: “I’m sorry, Larry. I really am. But I need distance. I need Chicago. I need to breathe again.”

Larry stayed seated, his voice low.

Larry: “Please… just be safe.”

She paused, hand on the doorknob, offering a sad smile.

Destiny: “I will. But I can’t stay. Not here. Not now.”

The door closed.

The silence that followed wasn’t calm—it was sharp, electric.

Larry sank into the couch, realization crashing down on him. The fights hadn’t just damaged his marriage.

They had driven Destiny away.

And as the house settled into its uneasy quiet, one thought echoed in his mind:

If this was the cost already…
what would be left standing when the storm finally broke?
